Day 41: Zero in Tehachapi

May 18th, 2022 by Jon

Ah, the zero day. A day in which you purposely do as little as possible in order to rest. We haven’t had a zero day since Wrightwood, so we have been looking forward to this day for a while now. We slept till about 7:30 before wandering down to the continental breakfast around 8:00. Our group was already there, and everyone planned to go to the grocery store sometime after breakfast. Everyone had their own chores to do or family to call, so we all decided it would be best to just go on our own. We headed back to our room, calculated the mileage for the next section at 85 miles, and looked at the leftover food we had, so we knew what we needed to buy.

We walked over to the grocery store around 9:30 and grabbed everything we needed fairly easily. Tehachapi has a huge Walmart supercenter, and we were able to get everything we needed in one place. We walked back and watched TV for a few hours before hitting up the hotel pool and hot tub with Stealth and Wilco for a while and then it was back to the room for more lounging. We went to a local pizza place for dinner with a big group and ate way too much food. We came back to the hotel, got back in the hot tub for another hour, and then it was to bed with us.

Unfortunately, our sleeping pad didn’t arrive today, and now it says it won’t arrive until Saturday. We’re trying to figure out what to do, and we’re going to see if there is any movement of our package overnight before we figure out what’s next. We will see what happens.
