Day 29: Zero in Wrightwood

May 6th, 2022 by Jon

Today was a zero day. That meant all we had to do was get our resupply, eat, and rest. We’re trying to be kind to our bodies because we’re still pretty early in this journey. I woke up around 7:00 and dozed until 8:00, then finally got out of bed. When we went downstairs, everyone was watching Top Gun and taking it easy. We planned to go down into town around 9:00 to grab breakfast and then go to the grocery store for our resupply and dinner for tonight.

After sitting around for a while, we finally got up to go and get breakfast at Grizzly Cafe. It was super tasty, and we left feeling very full. We crossed the street to get groceries and check out the hardware store, which had some hiking gear. They also had a scale and turns out I’ve lost about 7 pounds so far. I guess hiking all day will do that to you. We grabbed our food and picked up a few things to make dinner tonight at the Airbnb.

Our host actually came to pick us up and kindly drove us back to the Airbnb with all our groceries. We spent the rest of the day watching TV, checking the next bit of trail for water, stretching, and generally relaxing. It was a great day. For dinner, we made ribs, mashed potatoes that weren’t instant, and salad. After that, we watched The Two Towers to continue Seabiscuit’s Lord of the Rings education.

Tomorrow we will get up and have breakfast before heading back to trail.
